Baby boom in wake of Katrina power cuts

Electricity blackouts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina have led to a baby boom in devastated New Orleans.

It's just over nine months since the disaster hit.

"A baby boom is occurring," Dr William Gill of the Tulane Medical Centre told US network, ABC TV.

The network quoted some fathers as admitting their newborns were conceived after their cable TV service cut out.

Honestly, with the electricity and cable being out, one thing led to another. We have this bundle of joy," said one new dad, Ralph Tankersley, while cuddling his baby, Aubrey, at Ochsner Hospital.
